How to Restore your DROID RAZR with One-Click, Keeping Root

Aren’t the group of developers at XDA awesome? I mean they bring us ICS before the manufacturers, they bring us faster and battery efficient ROM’s along with awesome root tools like this one. XDA member globed has just released a One-click tool for the Droid Razr. The tool does two important things — It restores the device in the event of a soft brick, which is definitely a handy thing to have in the event of a flash gone bad. & It retains root after therestore — again a very handy thing to have around. It can be frustrating torestore a device and realize that you no longer have root. So definitely a useful tool to have.

This tool has been developed for the CDMA version of the Motorola DROID RAZR – Verizon’s version. It has not been tested and most likely will not work on the GSM version that is available internationally.

How to get Unlimited Data on Verizon for Ungrandfathered Lines

Last summer Verizon followed AT&T with axing their Unlimited Data, many blamed the coming of Apple’s iPhone which is known to be a data hog. With 4G LTE data speeds hitting 40 megabytes per second and higher, we are going through more data then we used too. Today we are going to show you a nice way of getting unlimited data back on your Verizon line, it’s pretty simple and all based on a glitch in their system in our favor.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Dial *611 from your Verizon phone, or 1-800-922-0204 from any phone.
2. Wait for computer CSR to go through the main menu. You will need your Verizon phone # and account PIN or last 4 of SSN.
3. Hit option 4.
4. When it asks you what you would like to do today say “Add a feature.”
5. If you have a 3G device (which includes all iPhones): Say you would like to add the $20 2GB 3G Mobile Hotspot FEATURE to your phone. If you have a 4G device: Say you would like to add the $30 Unlimited 4G Mobile Hotspot FEATURE to your phone. According to http://stopthecap.com/2011/07/12/…r-account/, they may be able to locate this feature via referencing feature code #76153.
6. Your data plan will now be the $29.99 unlimited data plan, and you’ll have either the 2GB or unlimited Mobile Hotspot feature on top of that.
7. {OPTIONAL – if you don’t want the Mobile Hotspot feature} Log into My Verizon and remove the Mobile Hotspot FEATURE from your account. Many people recommend waiting a few days (at a minimum) to remove the feature. The $29.99 unlimited data plan should remain on your account.
8. If they say they can’t add that feature to your plan, or that you must bundle your data + mobile hotspot service together as a single data plan, tell them thank you, hang up, and repeat the steps above.

Verizon might fix this bug in their system soon so I would say do it as soon as possible so you don’t miss out on it. Let us know in the comments if it worked for you or if you had some trouble.

How to Stream iTunes Playlists and Songs from Desktop to Android

Ever wanted to be somewhere else in your house but still be able to access music on your computer? TuneSync HomeStream makes it possible to remotely stream iTunes music and playlists from your PC or Mac to your Android device. Sounds too good to be true? It gets even better. All it requires is that your device and your computer share the same Wi-Fi network and to have the TuneSync HomeStream app installed on your phone and its TuneSync server installed on your computer.

TuneSync Server is available for both Windows and Mac OS X and like the app, it’s absolutely free. Though TuneSync HomeStream is not the only app of its kind on the Android Market, it is definitely one of the fastest and most attractively designed. Working together with iTunes, it’ll get music from your computer to your Android device with no need for physically transferring music files. Setting up the app is simple and easy.

First, install the TuneSync HomeStream app to your Android phone. You can get the app from here.

Next, you need to download and install TuneSync Server to your computer to generate your Library Name and Password. You can download it from here.

Once those are in place, you can start connecting TuneSync HomeStream to the TuneSync Server. Tap on Host Computer on the app’s homescreen and select your computer. Soon you’ll be dancing to the beats you’ve got on your computer, with no need to even be in the same room. As long as your device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi Network, you have access to all the songs in your iTunes library.

You can browse through your iTunes library on the TuneSync HomeStream app. It sorts your songs by Artists, Genres, and Playlists tabs. Tap the song you’d like to listen to and the TuneSync HomeStream app will stream it through its built-in music player.

The media player is equipped with some basic media controls and will provide you details like the song title, the album it belongs to, and even the album art. If you’re in a hurry to get to your favorite part, the media player also allows you to fast-forward through the song. You can even toggle Shuffle and Repeat on TuneSync HomeStream’s menu screen.

For those of you who’d like to multitask on your device, you don’t have to worry about needing to stop streaming music to do other things. Read an eBook or surf the web, because TuneSync HomeStram can continue to play tracks while it runs in the background.

TuneSync HomeStream isn’t limited to just Android phones.  It also allows you to stream MP3 and M4A audio files to your Google TV. You won’t have to worry about the lack of space on your Google TV’s internal or external storage.

If you’d like to start streaming your iTunes music and playlists from your computer to your Android device, you can get the TuneSync HomeStream for free on the Android Market. It requires Android OS v2.2 or higher to run.

Have you tried TuneSync HomeStream? If not, what media streaming app do you use for your iTunes playlists and songs?

How to Set Default Browser for Wi-Fi/2G/3G and Websites w/ Browser Swap App

Running at optimum condition is any mobile device user’s nirvana. A lagging device or a slow connection is sure to ruin a nice day, or sour some moods, at least. Optimization is key and users are quick to search for ways to save as much bandwidth, memory, or disk space as they can.

It’s time to take control over your browsing experience. The new Browser Swap app enters the Android arena as a refreshing solution to managing your favorite sites and browser preferences. If you’ve always been irked at how you can’t seem to get a handle on your surfing experience, Browser Swap is a clever app that allows you to specify which sites open with which browser–for convenient browsing. For instance, you can set YouTube.com to open with Google Chrome using the site’s desktop version. Or, you can set Firefox as the default browser for Facebook.com in its mobile version.

But, the app’s neatest feature to date is how it allows you to customize browser preferences according to your available connection–be it 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi. Now who wouldn’t want to make optimum use of bandwidth that way?

Being able to specify if you’d rather use the desktop or mobile version of a particular website can eliminate the hassle of locating the link to use so you can switch between versions. You’ll also no longer need to manually enter the exact URL of the site’s desktop or mobile version. Plus, running sites on multiple browsers is a breeze.

Here’s a quick guide to install and set up Browser Swap on your Android device:

  1. Download Browser Swap from the Android Market. Try the free lite version for 15 days or upgrade to the paid version for only US$2.00.
  2. Upon launching the app, select Set as Default to indicate Browser Swap as your default browser. From the drop-down menu, check Use by default for this action and then select Browser Swap.
  3. The homescreen will then load, showing you options for configuring settings on required connections, preferred sites, and the like. Tap on the 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi buttons to set which browsers to open your sites in while using that particular connection.
  4. Tap the Configure Sites button on the homescreen to pick specific default browsers for any of your favorite websites. Tap on Add a site to configure the browser button to enter the URL of a specific website and hit Add to save settings. The next time you enter that URL in the Google search bar, that site will automatically open using the browser you have specified for it.
  5. To add or remove a site from your list of configured sites, just tap on the site URL and make any edits as desired. You may also set a specific browser as the default browser for multiple connection types.

Do you find Browser Swap’s features useful for setting a default browser for each connection type? Or, do you use only one browser regardless of connection type?

  • Make sure your device has at least 60% power to keep your device functional during the rooting process.
  • Disable all system tools such as antivirus software and firewall programs. These may interfere during the rooting process. You will also need to uninstall security software on your Dell Streak 7.

  6. If your device was interrupted in the middle of the rooting process, reboot your device and repeat the whole procedure from the beginning.
  7. If you were not able to locate Superuser after successfully rooting your Dell Streak 7, you can download and install the app from the Android Market.

Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your Dell Streak 7 with just one click. Now that your Dell Streak 7 is rooted, what are you going to do with your device? Will you install custom firmware or an app that requires root access?

How To use Your Android Device as an Extended Display for a PC w/ ScreenSlider App

If you’re looking to put more visual ooomph into your desktop setup for gaming or just needing more display screens as added workspace, it’s often easier to get yourself a new desktop monitor to add to your already impressive gadget collection.

But, tough economic times have forced tech enthusiasts to consider other solutions, and if you have an Android smartphone or tablet, you won’t need to look any further. With some help from ScreenSlider, a nifty Android app, you can use your Android device as a monitor display extension.

ScreenSlider allows you to view items that are currently running on your desktop monitor on your Android device, even if you’re in another room. It’s like having an extra, portable display or screen–perfect for multitasking or keeping track of activity on social networks while you stay focused on the main task on your monitor. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection and the proper LAN setup on a Windows PC or laptop.

The app features easy controls on your Android device: pinch-to-zoom, two-finger panning while zoomed, three-finger scroll, and press-and-hold for right mouse click. You can use the built-in Android keyboard and speech-to-text recognition to input text into Windows apps. The app runs on devices with Android 2.2 or later.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to get this cool feature up and running:

  1. Download the ScreenSlider app from the Android Market for just 99 cents — a 50% discount from the original US$1.99 price for a limited time. If you have installed a previous version of the app which did not have the auto-update feature, it’s important to uninstall the old app first before installing the newly upgraded version.
  2. You will also need to download and install a separate ScreenSlider app to your PC. It’s available for free download from the developer’s website after entering a valid email address.
  3. Launch ScreenSlider on your Android device and enter a device name once requested.
  4. Right-click the ScreenSlider app on the system tray of your Windows PC/laptop and select “Find Devices”.
  5. Double-click your device on the list once it is detected over your Wi-Fi connection. A dialog box will pop up, prompting you to enter the code shown on your Android device in order to pair your device and PC.
  6. Click “Agree” for any license prompts that might come up during installation. The screens might flicker for a bit while the app is initializing, but once that’s done, the app should be ready for use.

Congratulations! You can now use your Android device as an extended monitor for your PC.
